AI & business travel - Hype or real change?

Business traveller using AI

AI is rapidly reshaping business travel, from smarter booking tools to improved traveller support. We explore how technology is improving efficiency while human expertise remains just as important as ever.

Artificial Intelligence is no longer something “coming soon” to business travel, it’s already shaping how companies book, manage and support travel programmes every day.

From smarter booking tools and automated approvals to disruption management and traveller safety, AI is helping businesses reduce admin, improve compliance and create more efficient travel experiences.

At Meon, this is something we are actively investing in, not just observing from the sidelines.

As part of my role at Meon, I work across both sales and AI implementation, focusing on how we can integrate AI into our business and client solutions to maximise ROI, improve efficiencies and enhance the overall traveller experience. The goal isn’t to replace human service, it’s to remove friction, automate repetitive tasks and allow our teams to focus on what adds the most value.

One of the most exciting developments in the market is happening within Cytric by Amadeus, the online booking platform used by many corporate travel programmes. Cytric is currently beta testing a range of AI-driven enhancements designed to make booking and managing travel more intuitive, personalised and efficient.

These developments include:

  • Smarter search and booking recommendations

  • Improved policy guidance during booking

  • AI-assisted trip planning

  • Faster disruption management

  • More intelligent approval workflows

  • Enhanced traveller communication through Microsoft Teams integration

The direction of travel is clear: business travel technology is becoming more conversational, predictive and personalised.

AI is also helping organisations make better strategic decisions through smarter reporting and analytics. Modern systems can identify missed savings opportunities, monitor traveller behaviour, highlight sustainability trends and provide clearer visibility over programme performance, all areas becoming increasingly important for businesses looking to manage costs and demonstrate measurable ROI.

Importantly, while AI is evolving rapidly, corporate travel remains a people business. Technology can automate processes and surface insights faster than ever before, but during complex itineraries, operational disruption, VIP travel or emergency situations, experienced travel professionals remain critical. The best travel programmes will combine intelligent technology with expert human support.

At Meon, we see AI as an enabler, helping us deliver faster response times, smarter workflows and more proactive service while maintaining the personal relationships and high-touch support our clients value.

The future of business travel is not simply digital. It’s intelligent, connected and increasingly AI-assisted, and we’re only just getting started.
