Cost saving tops business travel priorities

Europan Money

According to research by Uber for Business, UK-based travel policy pioneers are increasingly focussing on cost saving initiatives rather than sustainability concerns.

The survey of 1,000 UK participants found that two-thirds (67%) ranked cost saving among their top three priorities for the next 12 months, with 39% ranking it number one. This contrasts with findings from the last five years, according to Uber, which saw a greater emphasis placed on sustainability.

Stephen Inskip, Commercial Director at Meon, commented: “The recent volatility we have seen in global markets has of course had an impact on business confidence.; Therefore, it is not surprising to see increased scrutiny on the cost of travel. Typically, we find this is the perfect opportunity to support our clients with travel management and managing the cost of their programme and maximising their return on investment. It not only stimulates creative and innovative thinking, it allows us to truly demonstrate the value of an enduring strategic partnership."

Nevertheless, 46% per cent of participants in the latest survey placed sustainability among their top three priorities, and more than half (56% per cent) said they are actively tracking and aiming to reduce travel-related carbon emissions.

Despite a sharper focus on cost savings, only 28% of respondents said they plan to reduce business travel spend over the next year, while 21% expect to increase travel expenditure and fill the gap.
