Europe expected to add 300 new hotels during 2025

Europe is set to gain 300 new hotels and 37,500 rooms during 2025, according to latest industry figures from analyst Lodging Econometrics (LE).

Data shows that during the first nine months of the year, 195 new hotels were opened across the continent, which have added around 23,500 rooms. LE expects a further 105 European properties to open before the end of the year with a combined 14,000 rooms.

As a comparison, Europe saw the opening of 289 new hotels in 2024, which added nearly 39,000 rooms in total.

According to the latest development pipeline information, Europe is expected to see the opening of around 340 extra hotels in 2026, followed by another 350 properties in 2027. These new hotels would collectively add more than 95,000 rooms in total over the next two years.

The UK continues to lead the way with Europe’s highest level of new hotel projects at 277, including 76 properties in London. Germany is in second place with 152 hotels, followed by Turkey (140), France (114) and Portugal (108).

LE noted that Europe’s hotel construction pipeline is led by projects in the “upscale” market, with a total of 357 hotels, while the number of “upper upscale” properties also hit record highs, with 287 developments across the continent.
